Maribel was born in the highest
city in the world, La Paz, Bolivia.
She has lived in Texas from the age of 3 and has enjoyed
being a southern gal.
Growing up with passionate and
fun loving parents of Bolivian and Mexican-American descent, she
has incorporated this influence into her dance. Recently, she
learned that her paternal family was of Arabic descent which
accounts for her being drawn to the sensual rhythms of belly
dancing. Known in her
family as “the one who can dance”, she is now known as the
“Shimmy Queen”.
Dance has been a part of her
life since the age of six, dancing ballet, tap, and jazz.
Applying her strong classical training to Middle Eastern
fluid movements, results in a dynamic and fluid performance.
As a soloist and part of the Sabaya Belly Dancers, she
performs regularly in local venues, fundraising galas, dance
theatre productions, and party celebrations.
