Born in the highest city in the world (14,000ft.) from La Paz, Bolivia, Maribel descended to Texas and now resides in Austin, Texas. More interestingly, she
learned that her paternal family was of Arabic descent which
accounts for her being drawn to the sensual rhythms of belly
dancing. Known in her
family as “the one who can dance”, she is now known as the
“Shimmy Queen”.
Dance has been a part of her
life since the age of six, dancing ballet, tap, and jazz.
On a quest to find a dance form that complements her curvaceous physique and world music interests, middle eastern dance seemed to be a match. Like most belly dance enthusiasts her first class turned into many classes. From Austin to Egypt, Maribel has trained with professional dancers with a wealth of knowledge in classical dance training combined with middle eastern dance.
Performing professionally as a soloist for eight years and part of the Sabaya Belly Dance collective for four years. She
performs regularly in local venues, fundraising galas, dance
theatre productions, and party celebrations.
